It’s official: Island Records group The Killers will be the special musical guest when NBC’s Saturday Night Live premieres on September 30th, hosted by standup comedian/actor Dane Cook. This will mark the second consecutive seasonal appearance on SNL for the VMA Award-winning, Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum Killers, who will release their eagerly anticipated second album ‘Sam’s Town.’
October 3rd, The Killers will make history as the first band to perform three consecutive nights on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live (October 3rd, 4th &5th). Following their residency on Kimmel, The Killers are confirmed to perform on CBS’s The Late Show with David Letterman on October 24th. In between, The Killers will hit the road on their first major North American tour in support of the new album.
Sold out in minutes, the 15-city tour will kick off with back-to-back shows in Los Angeles (October 6-7th) and San Francisco (8-9th). The tour will then head across the U.S. and Canada before wrapping up in The Killers’ hometown of Las Vegas for the 2nd annual pre-Halloween weekend VEGOOSE Festival The Killers will be on-tour in Europe during November, and then return to North America to resume their schedule here.
The countdown is on – toward the October 3rd release of ‘Sam’s Town.’ The album’s first single “When You Were Young” (released late-July) was the Must-Have choice on Rolling Stone’s “Download Now” page in the August 10th issue.
The Killers – Brandon Flowers on vocals and keyboards, guitarist David Keuning, bassist Mark Stoermer, and drummer Ronnie Vannucci – recorded ‘Sam’s Town’ at the new Palms Studios in Las Vegas, with venerable British producers Flood (Mark Ellis) and [Alan] Moulder. It marks a reunion of the duo who first came to prominence as the producers of Smashing Pumpkins’ Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995), and whose many credits as engineers, mixers and producers have gone on to include U2, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, and Erasure (Flood); and Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, My Bloody Valentine, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, part of Hot Fuss and last year’s special Hot Fuss Limited Edition (Moulder).
‘Sam’s Town’ follows-up the phenomenal ‘Hot Fuss,’ which was released in June 2004 and stayed the longest-running rock album inside the top 50 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for all of 2005, reaching #7 and eventually logging 94 weeks on the chart – 53 of those inside the Top 50. The album spun off four solid hit singles – the Grammy-nominated #3 Modern Rock anthem of 2004, “Somebody Told Me,” the VMA-winning (and Grammy-nominated) “Mr. Brightside,” the Modern rock hit “Smile Like You Mean It,” and the Grammy-nominated “All These Things That I’ve Done.” ‘Hot Fuss’ went on to sell over 5 million worldwide!
