K-Fed’s rapping debut causes hip-hop critics to “lose control” of their laughter
By M&C News Aug 21, 2006, 23:24 GMT

Kevin Federline might have thrilled Britney Spears when he closed the eight annual Teen Choice Awards on Sunday with his television debut of his new single “Lose Control,” but the performance is said to have fallen on deaf ears among the online critics and others in the hip-hop industry.
Federline’s performance was built up throughout the show (which aired on Fox) and featured an introduction by Spears. The performance featured K-Fed walking around the stage with all the attitude of Vanilla Ice, and looking lost at times (at one point he walked into his one dancer). The song featured Federline rapping about his choice lifestyle, and bragging about his bling, Cristal, and fancy car (that was bought by Spears).
The performance was easily the biggest draw of the night, and has quickly becoming the biggest target for criticism. By Monday morning, the internet was flooded with videos and blogs on websites like MySpace and YouTube.com poking fun at the performance. In addition to the backlash from online critics, Federline has faced harsh reaction from the world of hip-hop with some labels executives calling him a joke, and someone that should be ignored.
Even in the face of the harsh reaction, Federline is still expected to release his debut album ‘Playing with Fire’ in October, and will probably still have a chance of finding an audience despite one bad performance.

' reformed background dancer Kevin Federline donned his best white-trucker-hat-and- matching-Oxford ensemble for his first-ever public performance...... there really wasn't much to hold the attention once Britney Spears completed her introduction and removed her overflowing, pregnancy-enhanced cleavage from view, but if pressed for a favorite moment from the performance, we'd have to say it's when the bewifebeatered guy in the front row, presumably a member of Federline's posse, leaps out of his seat and offers some approving fist-pumps at the end of the song, which made our own wildly enthusiastic gesticulations celebrating Federline's triumph seem somewhat uninspired.'
