Lionel Richie returns with “I Call It Love” single and video to star daughter Nicole

By Patrick Luce Aug 14, 2006, 23:32 GMT

Legendary singer, songwriter, producer and five-time Grammy award-winning Island recording artist Lionel Richie is bulleting up the charts with his new single “I Call It Love” – the first single from his new album ‘Coming Home’ which will be release by Island Records on September 12th.

In addition to the success of the single, Richie is also preparing the video for “I Call It Love” – which was recently shot in Los Angeles by Jessey Terrero (50 Cent) and starring Lionel’s daughter Nicole Richie. The video will have its world premiere on aolmusic.com on August 15th, starting at midnight and airing throughout the day.

In its fourth week out, “I Call It Love” (written and produced by Stargate and Taj) already has over 27 million in total audience nationwide, and has impacted nearly every major radio format including Adult R&B, Adult Contemporary, Pop, Rhythmic Top 40, Urban Mainstream and Smooth Jazz.

‘Coming Home’ is described as the definitive new album that Lionel Richie fans have been patiently awaiting since 2004’s ‘Just For You.’ The new album, featuring ten songs written/co-written by Richie, is an all-star collaboration with today’s most prolific contemporary hitmakers, including Jermaine Dupri, Raphael Saadiq, Dallas Austin, Sean Garrett, Chuckii Booker, and others.

Richie has personally written three new songs for the album, the title tune “I’m Coming Home,” “Outta My Head,” and “I Love You,” all of which he co-produced with his musical director Chuckii Booker, an accomplished songwriter and producer in his own right.  Booker collaborated with Richie as co-writer/co-producer on three other tunes, “I’m Missing Her,” “Keep Me Up All Night,” and “Why” (the latter two co-written/co-produced with Sean Garrett, who has recent hits with Usher, Beyoncé and others).

Working with such pop crossover masters as Raphael Saadiq (who wrote and produced “Sweet Vacation” for the album) and Jermaine Dupri (who wrote and produced “You Are”) is a natural progression for Richie, who already has one of history’s most extraordinary track records at radio.

Richie also co-wrote “Reason to Believe” with the track’s famed producer Dallas Austin of Atlanta (known for his work with TLC, P!nk, and Gwen Stefani). “All Around the World” was co-written and co-produced by Richie with Montreal-based Quicksound (who does the music for Cirque de Soleil).
