VMA Award-winning, Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum Island Records group the Killers (whose long awaited second album ‘Sam’s Town’ is set for October 3rd release) will join the A-list of performers set for the 23rd annual MTV Video Music Awards. The VMAs return to Radio City Music Hall in New York City for the first time since 2003 - when the show airs on Thursday night, August 31st, at 8:00 p.m. (ET).
The countdown has also begun toward the October 3rd release of ‘Sam’s Town’. The album’s first single “When You Were Young” (released late-July) is the Must-Have choice on Rolling Stone’s “Download Now” page in the brand new issue (August 10th): “This luscious piece of nostalgia gets better with every listen … it's on the right side of the divider between retro and timeless.” “When You Were Young” impacted at #1 most added at radio. It’s currently the #6 spun record in the country with an audience over 10 million.
‘Sam’s Town’ was recorded in the new Palm Studios in the Killers’ hometown of Las Vegas with venerable British producers Flood (Mark Ellis) and [Alan] Moulder. It marks a reunion of the duo who first came to prominence as the producers of Smashing Pumpkins’ Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995), and whose many credits as engineers, mixers and producers have gone on to include U2, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, and Erasure (Flood); and Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, My Bloody Valentine, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, part of Hot Fuss and last year’s special Hot Fuss Limited Edition (Moulder).
The album follows-up the phenomenal ‘Hot Fuss’ - which was released in June 2004 and stayed the longest-running rock album inside the top 50 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for all of 2005, reaching #7 and eventually logging 94 weeks on the chart – 53 of those inside the Top 50.
‘Hot Fuss’ spun off four solid hit singles – the Grammy-nominated #3 Modern Rock anthem of 2004, “Somebody Told Me,” the VMA-winning (and Grammy-nominated) “Mr. Brightside,” the Modern rock hit “Smile Like You Mean It,” and the Grammy-nominated “All These Things That I’ve Done.” The album went on to sell over 5 million worldwide.
