Zurich - A performance by the Rolling Stones in front of more than 60,000 people Saturday night outside Zurich is believed to have set a record for rock concerts in Switzerland.
Despite the huge crowd, which was apparently the largest ever for a Swiss rock concert, the traffic nightmare feared by local authorities did not materialized. The Swiss railroad ran 60 specially scheduled trains to get people to the event.
Some fans had waited since noon at the military airfield in Duebendorf, near Zurich. Still, tickets were still available on the day of the concert, which is part of the European let of the ongoing Rolling Stones world tour.
The show including two opening acts and performance by a squadron of military jets, before the venerable Stones took the stage late in the evening.
