Five-time Grammy winning R&B singer Usher has already tackled the music industry and Hollywood, and now the performer is setting his sights on Broadway with his debut in the revival of “Chicago” – the hit musical which was also adapted into a hit movie. Usher is set to play the role of the musical’s defense lawyer Billy Flynn (which was was portrayed by Richard Gere in the 2002 Oscar winner version). The show is scheduled to open on August 22nd and Usher is expected to star in the role through October 1st.
The hit making performer will be joining the ranks of other Hollywood heavy weights that have made the leap from screen to stage including Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington.
Usher broke onto the music scene with his self-titled debut album in 1994, and saw huge success with his most recent ‘Confessions’ in 2004. That album saw huge sales thanks to hit singles like “Yeah!,” and “Burn.”
