Cash returns with ‘American V: A Hundred Highways’

Country music icon Johnny Cash returns to store shelves this week with the release of ‘American V: A Hundred Highways’ – the final album in the American Recording series on the Lost Highway label.

Cash recorded the vocal tracks for the album months before his death in 2003, and the musical arrangements were finished two years later under the watchful eyes of producer and Cash friend Rick Rubin. Musicians on the album include Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Smokey Hormel (who all worked with Cash before), Matt Sweeney, and Johnny Polansky. The album is said to capture the power of Johnny Cash despite his not being here to approve or disapprove of the final product.The 12 track album includes Cash’s cover of the Bruce Springsteen song “Further On (Up the Road)” and his final spiritual song “I’m Free from the Chain Gang Now.” Other titles include “God's Gonna Cut You Down,” “The Evening Train,” and “Rose of My Heart.”‘American V: A Hundred Highways’ is now available at Amazon.
