White Stripe lawsuit trial begins in Detroit

Jury selection began in the trial between the rock band The White Stripes and a former producer who claims that he helped shape the rock duo’s sound and therefore is entitled to a piece of the royalties from the band.

Producer Jim Diamond (who filed the lawsuit in April) worked with the band (which consist of Jack and Meg White) on their debut album in 1999 and then again on 2000’s “De Stijl.” Album credits list him as a co-producer on the first album and as a sound mixer on the second.The White Stripes do not deny working with Diamond, but have stated in court documents that he was paid for his work and was not involved in the developing the band’s sound and style.The White Stripes first real taste of success came with 2001’s “White Blood Cells” – which was also the groups first major label release. The album’s sales were fueled by the Lego themed video for the single “Fell in Love with a Girl.” The Stripes gained even more success with 2003’s “Elephant” album which saw the single “Seven Nation Army” win a Grammy for Best Rock Song. The album also picked up a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album.
