The family of slain rapper Notorious B.I.G. and the lawyers for the City of Los Angeles have a new start date for the trial in the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family against the city. A new trial date has been set for early in October.
The ruling comes after it came out that the court may have been misled by lawyers for the family concerning the city covering up aspects of the murder investigation and statements made by informants.
The judge ruled a mistrial in the summer of 2005 and ordered the city pay the family $1.1 million in court cost and other expenses associated with the trial.
Notorious B.I.G. (Christopher Wallace) was killed in a shooting in March of 1997 at a party in L.A. The Wallace family filed the wrongful death lawsuit after the murder went unsolved.
In May, city attorneys informed the court that Wallace family lawyers had learned in 2002 about the documents that had led to the original mistrial ruling. Wallace family attorneys admitted a mistake had been made, but that it wasn’t intentional. City attorneys had asked the judge to set a new trial as quickly as the court could arrange.
