Chingy stands to lose some change in lawsuit

Rapper Chingy could stand to lose more than $250,000 if the court sides against him in a lawsuit filed by a St. Louis record label 49 Productions Inc. claiming that the performer broke a contacted in 2002.

The label’s owner filed lawsuit against Chingy (Howard Bailey, Jr.) for breaking a contract (which was reported to be signed in 1999 while the performer was going by H. Thugzy) to join another label Disturbing Tha Peace and is asking for $250,000 in damages and more than $25,000 in court cost and legal fees. The suit claims that the label’s owner spent more than $100,000 on developing the rapper and producing one album. Chingy’s debut album “Jackpot” was released in 2003 and went triple platinum on the sales chart. The album saw success with the single “Right Thurr” and also featured guest appearances by Ludacris & Snoop Dogg. He left the label after a royalty disputer and joined the Capital label. His following album “Powerballin’” was released in 2004 and also reached platinum status. A new album “Hoodstar” is scheduled for release in September and will feature guest appearances by Three 6 Mafia and Janet Jackson.
