Country icon Loretta Lynn falls and breaks shoulder

Country music icon Loretta Lynn (71) took a fall in her home on Sunday which resulted in a broken left shoulder, according to a spokesman for the singer.

Lynn is scheduled to have shoulder replacement surgery some time today at a hospital in Nashville. The singer is expected to rest at home while she heals from the surgery.The fall and resulting surgery will force Lynn to cancel nine concerts she had scheduled for the start of the summer. Lynn was also forced to cancel shows in February due to a back injury.Lynn has been a fixture in country music for over four decades and has released 70 albums. She released “Van Lear Rose” (which saw the singer team with rocker Jack White) in 2004 which went on to earn the singer five Grammy nominations.
