Singer Ashanti facing multi-million dollar lawsuit

Grammy award winning singer Ashanti (25) could stand to lose millions of dollars thanks to a lawsuit filed against her by her former manager under the charge of breach of contract.

In the lawsuit, the manager states the singer owes her money for ending their relationship pre-maturely after Ashanti made it big in 2003. This is the second breach of contract suit that the singer has had to face in the past two years.

Ashanti was forced to pay a former producer $630,000 in 2005The lawsuit comes on the heels of Ashanti being forced to pay $630,000 to producers in 2005. That suit, filed by producer Genard Parker, claimed the singer broke a contract that stated Parker would be allowed to work with Ashanti on two tracks of her first major label album.

Ashanti’s fist album (which was self-titled) was released in 2002 and went on to sell more than six million copies worldwide. Her follow-up release “Chapter II” came out the following year and reached platinum selling status in the U.S. and gold status in the U.K. Her most recent release “Collectables By Ashanti” was released in 2005 and consist of 10 tracks – six of which were re-mixed and four were new material.

The singer has also appeared in a number of films including 1992’s Malcolm X and 2005’s Coach Carter. She will next appear in the upcoming horror film Resident Evil: Extinction set to be released in 2007.
