Sydney - Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards has been airlifted to a New Zealand hospital with a serious head injury after falling out of a palm tree while on holiday in the South Pacific island nation of Fiji, news reports said Saturday.
The 62-year-old Richards, and fellow Stones member Ron Wood, were climbing a tree at an exclusive resort last week when he slipped and fell, hitting his head, The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reported.
Richards was reportedly flown from the Wakaya Club to Nausori Airport near Suva, where he was treated at the Suva Private Hospital on Thursday morning, the papers said. He was then reportedly flown to Auckland's Ascot Hospital.
His wife, Patti Hansen, was by his side, the paper said. Richards and his family were holidaying at the exclusive resort following their Australian tour and New Zealand concerts.
