Layne Staley’s death 'swept under the carpet' – Jerry Cantrell
By Trent McMartin Mar 15, 2006, 16:41 GMT
The newly reformed Alice in Chains made their second live appearance in a decade last week when the surviving members of the group performed at a taping of the VH1 Classic series "Decades Rock Live!”
Guitarist Jerry Cantrell told Launch Radio Networks that the band mainly reunited to honour their late lead singer Layne Staley who died in April of 2002 of an apparent overdose.
“It hurt enough to lose the guy, but to have him just totally swept under the carpet when he died was an insult,” Cantrell said. “But, you know, we don't have any control over that, and we were lucky enough to spend time with the guy and call him our friend, you know, and we lived and we built this thing, and it's totally about honouring Layne and honouring the music and celebrating, and it’s also about celebrating us being alive and being together.”
The group, featuring guest singers Philip Anselmo and William DuVall, performed five songs for the "Decades Rock Live!” tribute to fellow Seattleites HEART.
Alice in Chains plans to tour both the U.S. and Europe this year.

About DuVall...well, how could he even have the gaul to sing LAYNE'S SONG Sludge Factory, or any other song. Those songs were personal and he doesn't know sh*t about it. Jerry, I know you need money, but c'mon, where is the loyalty? That was really low what you all did, using Layne to make a buck. Next album name? Hall of Shame.
i love laynes voice,he made alice in chains what they were.
jerry is a phenominal guitarist and dont get his recognition i believe, but layne's deep dark voice is what really made the great music they were. i wish cantrell the best on moving on ,and hope they have
great success, and hope the best 4 those guys .

Funny he should say that about Layne's death being swept under the carpet as Jerry was playing a stupid street scene in Charlotte the very night of Layne's wake. Fact is that Jerry's solo career bombed and the reunion was a pathetic attempt to try and hang on to musical success...
