Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony plagued by squabbles

While it was a celebratory day for rock and roll last night at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, most of the focus was on what was happening offstage. Following a speech by Garbage's Shirley Manson, current and ex-members of Blondie appeared on stage together to be inducted, yet the group, without departed members Frank Infante and Nigel Harrison, went on to perform "Heart Of Glass", "Rapture" and "Call Me""We want to play," said Harrison. "We weren't part of it."Harrison then added that watching a film of the band's career highlights made him feel like he was "attending his own funeral".After the show, guitarist Chris Stein responded by saying, "They wrote themselves out of the band's history as far as I'm concerned."The Sex Pistols were no-shows as promised, recently declining their invitation to the ceremony when they published a hand-written letter calling the Hall Of Fame "urine in wine". Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner read the note out to the audienceThe ceremony ended with Elvis Costello, Allen Toussaint and Robbie Robertson paying tribute to New Orleans with Toussaint's "Who's Gonna Help Brother Get Further?" and Fats Domino's "Walking To New Orleans."

Rock and Roll Hall of FameMar 16th, 2006 - 18:02:04

The R&R Hall of Fame is a travesty. I'm a great 'Chicago' fan and can't believe that this great group, which has been performing for 39 years and sold millions of records, has never been included. They're iconic and their omission is inexcusable.
