Irish rockers U2 reschedules Vertigo Tour

Mar 13, 2006, 11:08 GMT

Sydney - Irish rock band U2 has rescheduled the Australian leg of its Vertigo Tour for November, lead singer Bono announced Monday.

The group postponed the Australian, New Zealand and Japanese engagements of their world tour because the child of a band member, guitarist the Edge, became seriously ill.

'I can't really get into details why,' Bono told national broadcaster ABC. 'There was a lot of distress and angst and the good news is I can announce tonight we are coming back, looks like November, and that's a great relief for me.'

U2 had been scheduled to begin the Asia-Pacific portion of its tour in Auckland, New Zealand, on March 17 and 18. It had slated concerts in Brisbane on March 21, Melbourne on March 24 and 25, Adelaide on March 28 and Sydney on March 31.

Bono is in Australia on holiday with wife Ali Hewson and their sons Elijah, 6, and John, 4.

'I didn't want to leave Australia without having that hammered down,' he said.

The only other time U2 have had to postpone part of a tour during their 25 years of performing was in Sydney in 1998, when three concerts were rescheduled.
