Unreleased Johnny Cash material to see daylight
By Trent McMartin Mar 3, 2006, 17:53 GMT
Even in death singer Johnny Cash remains a larger than life presence on the
music industry.
A movie (Walk the Line) based on his and wife June Carter
Cash's love affair and rise to the top was a critical and commercial success
as was the film's subsequent soundtrack. Last year saw the release of
numerous compilations most notably the four-disc box set, The Legend and the
hits album The Legend of Johnny Cash (not to be confused with the boxset).
Both sold very well.
Now, slated to hit shelves this May is Personal File, a two-CD set of 49
previously unreleased songs recorded in the early seventies. The tracks
consist of traditional folk and gospel songs, some original cuts and covers
of such classic songs from Johnny Horton and the Louvin Brothers. The songs
were recorded over a few days in the studio at Cash's House of Cash offices
in Tennessee.
Along with Personal File, the next few years will see the release of the
fifth part in Cash's Rick Rubin-produced American Recordings sessions as
well as multi-track audio masters from Cash's TV series The Johnny Cash
Show, demos and test pressings of Cash's Sun Records.
