U2 band reconciles with Mexico: first concert in 9 years
Feb 16, 2006, 19:41 GMT
Mexico City - The Irish pop band U2 has reconciled with Mexico after a nine-year absence, making its second appearance this week on Thursday.
During the first concert on Wednesday, frontman Bono apologised to the 140,000 Mexican fans for refusing to appear in the North American country for so many years.
'Mexico is the land of the future and U2 is the band of the future. We love you,' Bono shouted.
The band had vowed in 1997 not to play any more concerts in Mexico after bodyguards of the son of Mexican president Ernesto Zedillo beat up the band's chief of security. Fans waited for days in line outside the Azetec Stadium for tickets.
Further concerts of U2's Vertigo World tour are scheduled for Brasil, Chile, Argentina, Australia and Hawai.
