Mariah Carey reportedly furious she wasn't picked to open Grammy awards

Mariah Carey is reportedly furious that she wasn't picked to open tonight's Grammy awards (09.02.06).
Instead that honour will go to Madonna.
The songstress - who is nominated for eight of the accolades - was said to be desperate to headline the star-studded bash. An insider told New York Daily News she 'really wanted to open the show with her choir-backed rendition of 'We Belong Together'.' But Madonna, who is performing a duet with animated group the Gorillaz, also wanted to open the event - and allegedly threatened to boycott the ceremony if she didn't get top billing. A source revealed: 'The war between Madonna and Mariah has been going on for years. 'Mariah was also steaming last summer when Madonna stole the show at Live 8.' Madonna's performance is expected to be one of the highlights of the awards ceremony. She agreed to sing with the cartoon group because she's a huge fan of their music. The animated band has been nominated for four accolades, including Record Of the Year for 'Feel Good Inc'. Madonna's publicist Liz Rosenberg said: 'Madonna really likes them, and they like Madonna. They are going to do something together.' Rosenberg remained tight-lipped about what the star would perform, but added: 'It's going to be stupendous.
