New York - After Janet Jackson's infamous 'wardrobe malfunction' in 2004, Super Bowl broadcasters played it safe this year and censored the Rolling Stones for TV audiences.
A five-second tape delay Sunday during the rockers' 12-minute halftime gig allowed broadcaster ABC to cut explicit lyrics in two Stones songs, People magazine reported in its online edition Monday.
In the opening song Start Me Up, a word about a woman's sexual powers over a dead man was cut. In the next tune, Rough Justice, a male sexual reference - a synonym for rooster - got blipped.
With up to 130 million viewers watching American football's championship game Sunday evening, only the Stones' 1965 hit Satisfaction remained uncut.
'Here's one we could have done at Super Bowl I,' Stones frontman Jagger, 62, joked before breaking into the song.
In 2004, Janet Jackson's right breast was exposed for a brief moment during her performance with Justin Timberlake, who later explained the incident as a 'wardrobe malfunction'.
