Mariah Carey scrapes past 50 Cents as best seller 2005
Dec 30, 2005, 14:28 GMT
Washington - With just a few days left in the year, Mariah Carey's Mimi CD crept ahead of 50 Cent's The Massacre as the best selling album of the year, reports said Thursday.
Mimi sold 4.866 million copies compared to 4.834 million for Massacre, according to MTV news, which quoted Nielsen SoundScan tallies.
Carey has suffered a series of setbacks in recent times, including the 'Glitter' flop and the 30 million dollar buy-out of her record contract. She would be the first female to hold the top selling album mark since Alanis Morisette in 1996.
Former 'American Idol' winner Kelly Clarkson was headed for third place for Breakaway, which sold 3.4 million copies, MTV reported.
