Mariah Carey takes lead in race for top album
Dec 29, 2005, 21:39 GMT
Washington - With just days to go in 2005, pop star Mariah Carey has taken the lead in the race for bestselling album, Nielsen SoundScan figures showed Thursday.
Carey's album 'The Emancipation of Mimi' overtook rapper 50 Cent's 'The Massacre' and now leads by 32,000 with a total of 4.866 million copies sold.
The latest sales figures are additional evidence of the resurgence of Carey's career, which had seemed to fade just a couple years ago. The pop diva also received eight Grammy nominations and 'Mimi' is nominated in the top album of the year category.
The bid to outsell 50 Cent was an uphill battle, as Carey released her CD in April, a month after the rapper.
