Q awards 2005 full list of winners

Oct 11, 2005, 11:12 GMT

Yoko Ono launched a veiled attack against Sir Paul McCartney at yesterday's (11.10.05) Q awards - branding him an inferior musician to John Lennon.

The Japanese artist was at the prestigious ceremony to collect the Q Special Award on behalf of her late husband and took the opportunity to lay into John's former Beatles songwriting partner.

As she went up to collect the award, she said: "I wish John was here today as he would have really loved it. But I'd like to tell you a story about me and John. He always found it extraordinary that people would always cover Paul's songs, and I used to tell him not to worry about all those June and Spoon songs."

Later, Yoko was seen chatting with Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, a self-confessed Beatles and Lennon obsessive.

After their chat, Liam - whose band were the big winners at the ceremony, scooping the prizes for Best Album and the coveted People's Choice award, voted for by the magazine's readers - praised Yoko.

He said: "I love this woman. I love Yoko. Every time I see her I just want to give her a hug and protect her."

Other winners at the event, in London, included Coldplay, who were named Best Act In The World Today, U2, who walked away with Best Live Act, and legendary group the Bee Gees who received a Lifetime Achievement award.
