Betting on Bono or Geldof to win Nobel Prize
By Trent McMartin Oct 6, 2005, 2:11 GMT
Australian betting agency, Centrebet have put U2's Bono and famed concert organizer Bob Geldof at 7-1 odds of winning the Nobel Peace Prize this year.
Both Geldof and Bono have been tireless campaigners through the years and were involved in organizing the Live 8 concerts this past summer that were set up as a means to pressure the G8 Leaders to increase aid, deliver trade justice and drop the debts of the poorest African nations.
Though the rockers are popular choices to win the award they face stiff competition from the likes of U.S. Senator Richard Lugar and former Senator Sam Nunn who created a program to dismantle nuclear bombs from The Cold War and Finland President Martti Ahtisaari, who was involved in peace efforts in Namibia and the Balkans.
The Nobel Peace prize will be presented December 10 in Oslo, Sweden, the home country of the prize's namesake Alfred Nobel.
