Melanie C blames ex-bandmates for lack of success

Former Spice Girl Melanie C has blamed her ex-bandmates for her lack of success.The sexy singer claims the flop solo efforts of Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Mel B "reflect badly" on her own career.She explained: "This year there's been the Live 8 cancellation, Victoria Beckham's never out of the press, Melanie B released an album that didn't do much and Geri Halliwell had an unsuccessful release - and that reflects badly. You're guilty by association."Melanie, who used to be known as Sporty Spice, has had the biggest solo success of all the Spice Girls.But, after once playing Wembley Stadium with the band, she was reduced to performing a free concert to just 80 people in an Australian shopping mall this week.However, Melanie claims she prefers to work abroad because people are more "open-minded" than in the UK.She is quoted by Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: "Things are quite tough for me at the moment, but people are more open-minded in the rest of the world, so that's where I'm spending my time - where people appreciate me."Copyright 2005 BANG Media International
