Live 8 DVD expected this fall, plus track details
By Trent McMartin Sep 6, 2005, 20:11 GMT
Live 8 organizer Bob Geldof has high hopes for the DVD version of the humanitarian concerts that ran simultaneously this past July in London, Rome, Tokyo, Moscow, Berlin, Toronto, Philadelphia and Johannesburg.
"I hope this will be the biggest-selling DVD of all time," said Geldof recently. "It deserves to be. More importantly, perhaps, it should be, for it will help us achieve our goal of changing the lives of the extreme poor for the better and making our generation the one that helped end the disgrace of poverty."
The four-disc DVD set will feature the Paul McCartney/U2 duet along with various highlights from each city including the one off reunion of Pink Floyd. The DVD will hit shelves on November 8th just in time for the Christmas season.

WHAT ABOUT A-HA IN BERLIN?????
Aweful. Simply aweful.
Far too much music was cut from this DVD. They brought Def Leppard, Dave Matthews Band, Velvet Revolver, Green Day, and Jet down to one song apiece. Not only that, but Deep Purple, the kings of metal themselves, as well as the Bachman-Cummings Band, were cut out completely from the list! And for what: the oh-so-talented masters of the art of music, Will Smith, the Black Eyed Peas, and Snoop Dogg.
The only thing worthwhile at all on this set is the fact that they didn't cut out Pink Floyd and The Who.
Hopefully they'll realize their mistakes and release a DVD with all the neglected material. But of course, they won't.
Aweful. Simply aweful.
I cannot belive they only put 'Time is Running Out' on by Muse, hysteria and bliss were amazing. So much has been omitted, and we can't even stream these missing tracks online anymore, so will they just be forgotten? what a waste of amazing music.
Why do I see -nothing- by The Cure on this DVD set?
Oh, I know why. It's too full of pointless 'now' music that will be forgotten in 10 years.
The live 8 global events were awesome. It would be great if they included all the acts, but as usual they decided that they would pick and choose the ones THEY thought YOU might want to see. For the most part they did a good job. They sould have just added an extra DVD to the London and USA set, making it more complete. What about Live 8 Russia? Only one track? I located a website that lists all the tracks from the many concerts at thelive8concert.com. There are essays, photos, tracklisting and other details about the event. You would think that the official site would have at least half of the stuff this one does. It is going to be a great Christas though. I plan on setting aside a weekend or two to re-experience these DVDs. What are your thoughts?

Great to see that this DVD set will be available in time for Christmas. I also saw today that the Live 8 Berlin DVD info has been released. I found it at http://thelive8concert.com/germany.htm. There is also some other good info. I am looking forward to the Canadian DVD set. I hope they will release all of the Deep Purple material, and of course Neil Young.
