Thundercat has shared new single Bus In These Streets on LA’s KCRW — a delightful, soulful tune about the need to disconnect.

Stephen Bruner, otherwise known as virtuoso bassist and singer Thundercat, can hook you in immediately with his indelible voice and deft instrumentation, as he definitely does here with this surprise single unveiled on KCRW’s tastemaking Morning Becomes Eclectic show.

Bus In These Streets has the feel of a classic soul track but very contemporary lyrics about a world going mad with its dependence to the screen.

The unsurprisingly great bassline is provided by Bruner over breezy drumming and keys by Louis Cole and additional production from Bruner’s Brainfeeder labelhead, Flying Lotus.

Following last year’s impressive mini-album The Beyond / Where The Giants Roam, which included the insatiably catchy heartbreak anthem Them Changes, it’s nice to get a great song from Bruner this year; even if it’s possibly just a standalone single.

Bruner, along with Flying Lotus, Shabazz Palaces, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Kamasi Washington and Gaslamp Killer will be performing at the Hollywood Bowl for an exciting Brainfeeder show on September 17, with tickets available via the link.
