Troy Dean Osmond, son of The Osmonds legend Merrill Osmond, has died at the age of 33.

Merrill shared news of his son’s death in a poignant Facebook message on Friday, telling his fans, “It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we have to announce our precious son, Troy Dean, passed away earlier today.”

Troy inherited his family’s love of music and much like them, turned it into a career. The youngest son of Merrill Osmond began learning to play the piano and cello at age 5, and at age 12 he began learning the organ too.

Prior to his death, Troy gave piano, cello and organ lessons. He also performed with RR Strings Utah, a professional quartet.

No details have been revealed about how Troy died. The outpouring of love from Merrill’s fans was instant and the response has been huge, with fans of The Osmonds flooding his Facebook page with messages of love and support.

“Sorry for your families loss. Sending a big hug your way to help comfort you all,” one commenter wrote, while another said, ” I am so very sorry for your loss. May he RIP. Eternal rest grant unto Troy, and may perpetual light shine upon him.”

Likewise, many have taken to Twitter to discuss the shocking passing of the Osmond son at such a young age.

Merrill paid tribute to his son in his message as a “sensitive, caring and talented boy”, adding: “[He] brought so much happiness to all who knew him. He had a huge compassion for others and always knew when help was needed.”
