Vince Vaughn has joined the cast of Mel Gibson’s forthcoming WWII drama Hacksaw Ridge.
Vaughn joins Andrew Garfield in the movie, which is based on the life of first conscientious objector to win the Congressional Medal of Honor.
A Seventh Day Adventist and medic, Desmond T. Doss saved the lives of dozens during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. The battle itself raged for 82 days and cost the lives of more than 14,000 allied troops and 77,000 Japanese soldiers.
Doss is played by Garfield, while Vaughn will play a sergeant who helps prepare the men for the fight ahead.
Gibson is directing from a script by Robert Schenkkan and Randall Wallace.
