In "Finding Neverland ," directed by Marc Forster the audience is transported into the life and mind of JM Barrie during the period in his life when he created "Peter Pan ." The film has just the right amount of fantasy and drama which results in a wonderful mix. The entire cast shine in their respective roles, right down to the dog, and fit them to a 'T', the various relationships and friendships between the characters is clear without it having to be spelled out. The tension and frostiness between James and his wife, Mary Barrie -- played by Radha Mitchell translates well on screen, as does the growing friendship between James and Sylvia. There is just the right amount of tenderness between the two without it being deemed sappy or cliched. Mrs. Du Maurier, Sylvia's mother -- played by Julie Christie was also portrayed extremely well with her extreme overprotectivness of her daughter. Depp, who playes JM Barrie, seems to have an affinity for accents and this Scottish is no exception. Props must also go to the actors Nick Roud, Joe Prospero, Freddie Highmore and Luke Spill who played, respectively, George, Jack, Peter and Micheal Llewelyn Davies. The certainly grow throughout the movie, Peter and Micheal in particular, as they join in James' adventures one minute and worry about their mother in the next. Young Michael is quite funny too, with some of the innocent but amusing lines that he comes out with. Dustin Hoffman -- who plays Charles Frohman may not be in the film a lot but the scenes that he is in he is funny also, with his skeptisim of the new play, "Peter Pan ." Each time a door was pushed in the film you could never be quite sure whether it would open into a hallway or a piece of James' imaginative mind. It was, as Peter put it "magical." It will make you laugh, smile, likely cry; but it is a film that is enjoyable for young and old alike. Whether you are six or sixty; "Finding Neverland " may just make you wish for a paradise of your own. As they say in the film, all you have to do is believe...
