Under Our Skin is a must see for every medical professional and human being over the age of reason. It is time to undo the damage done by insurance salesman who just happen to be the Infectious Disease Society of America's leading authors of the now discredited Infectious Disease Society of America Lyme disease guidelines.
The IDSA guidelines are a form of assault, so much so that thousands have been harmed as is so evident in this gutsy film. The salesman who wrote the guidelines that doctors are forced to follow or else, excluded any research that proved Lyme disease can be a chronic treatable infection. In any other science that is a big no-no...but not in medical science as indicated by the tobacco doctors of the '60's & 70's, and the horrific Tuskegee experiment. The IDSA docs are in that category up to their necks and the Attorney General of Connecticut agreed. He has ordered an independent public review of the guidelines.
Dr. Wormser even went on to state sooo foolishly and unprofessionally in the film that he has never seen chronic Lyme in teenagers!! Insanity. The research is not only clear, it is irrefutable. Who the hell put this man in charge of writing health care guidelines? Oh yes, the insurance industry.
Ironically, it is the chronic lyme disease proponents that are arguably doing greater damage to their cause by myopically insisting that the cause of post-lyme disease problems are due to persistent and continued infection by the disease, as opposed to other potential explanations. In fact, further research has shown that there is a possibility that the worsening of symptoms may be due to an auto-immune response caused by the initial use of antibiotics, that some individuals may be experiencing late-stage lyme disease due to a late diagnosis, or any number of other potential explanations.
The chronic lyme disease crowd proclaims that the medical and insurance community refuse to believe in chronic lyme disease because it might cut into its profits. Yet all of the alternative explanations offered by mainstream doctors are ALSO chronic diseases such as fibromyalgia, rhematoid arthritis, and others. If they wanted to save money, why would they suggest other equally debilitating, chronic diseases?
