I have heard throughout the years people saying how much they dislike S/T and how much they hate and can't stand it.
The entire idea of this movie is to re-introduce the legend of the series to a new audience. While at the same time entertaining the old ones. Ahh Yes The old ones !!!
I like the movie I want to see more I am happy with the choices and the direction they've taken and hope it leads to a series of these films.
I also would like to say...How much I loathe Star Wars...as a sci- fi fan and someone who follows and catches on to any and all plot twists I have to point out that S/W's has the most convoluted twisty contradicting story line I have ever seen. The main element of Anakin and Luke was the only thing that never changed. If I were Chewbacca I would have shot Lando for his betrayal. But no...he was needed for ' Return ' Luke and his sister but not really they changed it and made it his sister. It was made up and re-written as it was being filmed. How can anyone say it made any sense?
S/W better than S/T no freakin way!!!!
If you are going to review a movie like this you should get someone familiar with the star trek universe. this is a totally alternative universe, same character but it is not a prequel. is a totally new beginning, pardon my english , is not my language.
I slept quite a lot. Don't know if it was the film or if it was the bottle of wine I had just finished with my curry. I did like seeing the Star Ship girlies in their mini dress uniforms! If I only dreamt that bit then I am better than the director.
I guess you guys who loved the movie missed the lack of chemistry in the major characters. Half the movie's dialogue was make of of one liners form the the original series and didn't help in the flow of the movie.
The visual effects are an A+, acting is a C, the story line is old and tried and is a D, the acting is a C.
It was the same old story where they have to 'save the planet from destruction'. Well at least this time it wasn't Earth and they fail and there wasn't a cheerleader involved. Maybe if there was Vulcan wouldn't have turned into a black hole. I think they failed to give the series must new interest too.
Hopefully this will be a 'One and done'!
I think many people expect too much from the new Star Trek Movie. Keep in Mind that Gene Roddenberry had no input on this inspiring new take on the Star Trek series. JJ Abrams put a new refreshing spin on old characters. If I were an actor up for any of these roles, I believe I would refuse, just for the fact that the're so many older fans that will stay true to the older characters. I am one of those fans... though I must say all of the actors did quite well. As far as the story, I was disappointed by Vulcan being destroyed
As Star Trek movies go it is one of the better ones blessed with a strong cast, fast moving, good action and special effect scenes with a sense of humour mixed in.
Being a original Star Trek TV series viewer, I wonder why they have not moved on, OK it is a new cast, but not new characters, the acting was good, but why saddle them with being Jim Kirk, Spock etc. Why is Hollywood so scared to take a chance on Sci-Fi, The spirit of the original Star Trek that Gene Roddenberry created is all about a futuristic vision, this is just rehashing Sci-Fi history, so on that level i felt a bit disappointed. Chris Pine gets beat up so many times, he reminded me of a ruffled Teddy Bear that had been through the washing machine too many times. Cute, but he's not Big Bill Shanter! and why should he be that was the 1960's. If Star Trek is not going to move forward and explore the future, it should be left in the past.
I'm a long time fan of the original series. After anticipating and seeing the film, discussing it with friends, and writing a review on my blog, I have little more to say. Abrams majorly blew it. From a filmmaking standpoint it was so stupidly fast, and not a shred of sensibility for dramatic pacing. How old is Abrams? 14? This is a glamorous, loud, glossy thrill, and that's not near enough. Abrams had a chance to do this right and he went safe. Roddenberry didn't go safe, he took chances. Abrams gave the kids what they wanted to insure that he would have a job tomorrow, he gave them candy. Someone gave him the keys to a beautiful, fast car and he spun out in the parking lot, not taking us anywhere. He betrayed himself as an artist, but WOW, is he ever some kinda super wheeler dealer! Ho hum.
Beating a dead horse.
Star Trek franchise doesn't need to spin back to the olden days. Kirk, Spock and the others have made their mark. It is time to get new story ideas instead of all the prequel rewash. Watching this made me think of the past. Star Trek was always about the future and made one think of the future of mankind. Adding glitter to an old worn out pair of shoes doesn't magically make them new. It is time for some new shoes for Star Trek or it should just have kept fading away.
Around the Voyager/DS9 era the problem wasn't a new era rather it was writers whose ideas had long run dry. Enterprise started this prequel nonsense and it is safe to say that nearly nobody bit. Trek needs new ideas, no bandaged up old stories.
Part of the fun of Star Trek was that it created a whole other world of its own. Many books & manuals have been created to try to give continuity to the time line that started with the original series so long ago. This piece of junk strays way too far from that original time line.Yes I know that you have to upgrade sets on a huge movie budget, BUT the ship itself is way more advanced than it was in the series which is supposed to take place later .Events occur in this movie that make events set in the later time of the series imposible to happen. You do not suddenly make Tarzan an alien from another dimension. You do not make Superman Black or Gay or whatever is'happening now'. The whole thing is aimed at the non Trek crowd that only wants to see flashy sets,non-stop action,& stuff being blown up.Let these people go see the MATRIX or some other series. I think the original series fans have been thrown under the bus & their beloved series stolen from then.If you are going to do Trek, do it right or else leave it alone. Delete this garbage from the Trek compendium---IT NEVER HAPPENED.
