Might want to double check your facts:

'Planet Terror' was written and directed by Robert Rodriguez.
'Death Proof', was written and directed by Quentin Tarantino.

You have it backwards...

It takes away from a quality review to have the films attributed to the wrong writer/director in the opening sentence. It is hard to take the review seriously after that gaff.

Your facts are all screwed up. Are you even sure it was 'Grindhouse' you saw?

Despite the switcheroo of the Directors names on the projects at the outset (which looks to be fixed) I read the whole review and found it well written and helpfull.

Never feed the trolls.

Death Proof was not really very good at all, the conversations were boring and the characters annoying. The chase scene was also sub par. most people going to see this movie will be very disappointed by tarantino's work, which should have been the best part

'Can you think of any other director that can plunk his characters down in a car or on a barstool and keep you fascinated just by long stretches of dialogue?'

Maybe a few but this isn't one of them. What dialogue were you hearing? And, for that matter, what movie did you see?

Are you calling Death Proof 'a minor classic' out of some PC deference to the ending having four women overcome the psychotic Stuntman Mike? If not I am baffled by the review. Death Proof is excruciatingly bad. My friend and I stopped and looked at each other after about a half hour of banal, stereotypical 'tough gal sista talk' and just guffawed!

I also love Tarantino's movies and I have no idea how anyone who had seen them could regard Death Proof as anything other than his worst outing.

I've really never seen a more inaccurate review. Death Proof was long-winded and immature, at best. Tarantino does have amazing skill with dialogue; sadly, he didn't choose to use it in this film. It completely broke out of the spirit of the grindhouse film to have the characters go on and on about nothing for that long. Yes, in most of his movies, that is Tatantino's forte, however in this film, it's clearly just filler needed only because he forgot to create a plot. Kurt Russell was absolutely brilliant, but could not save the film. Fortunately, after seeing Planet Terror, one is so exhilarated that coasting through Death Proof is not as brutal as it might have been otherwise. Rodriguez' film is absolutely brilliant. It beautifully captures the essence of the old grindhouse films so well, that you’re shocked to see a cell phone in use by the characters. Planet terror manages to embrace gross out violence while maintaining a complex script and developing likeable characters (something Death Proof never seems to attempt, much less succeed at.) I’d suggest re-watching the film, you seem to have entirely missed the point. Even a Tarantino fanboy should be able to admit that the man went astray here.

'keep you fascinated just by long stretches of dialogue' - WHAT?? You've got to be kidding. After reading that line I had to scroll back up top to be sure this wasn't written by a woman (sorry gals) - this 'dialogue' made me jealous of those people who left the theater thinking the movie was over after the superb Planet Terror. Death Proof's chick-blabbing was like being lectured to by my girlfriend with no ability to escape the black hole of inconsequential nothingness. Horrible.

This double feature has done me a remarkable favor. I have been fans of Rodriquez and, to a lessor degree, Mr. Tarentino. I go to anythig they make to observe what innovative and extreme measures they will go to in homage to films of yesterday. I also tend to go to most of what I call the 'roller coaster films' that take you on trips where your instinct is to close your eyes for much of the ride. I think they have finally cured me of both habits.

Wow...there's a lot of venom on this board.

I'm not sure how others were raised, but my parents taught me that just because I don't agree with someone doesn't make their opinion wrong.

While I didn't particularly care for the film(s), I am intrigued to see someone else's take on it. It makes me a bit more broadminded about things.

But then again, some people need personal validation by flaming another.

You still need to re-check your facts. Kurt Russell was driving a Chevy Nova in the first part of 'Death Proof.' He drove a Charger in the second part. Also, Zoe was sliding around on the hood od a Dodge Challenger. They must have mentioned that a hundred times in the segment. You really must pay better attention if you are going to review movies.

I saw Grindhouse a couple of days ago and enjoyed the zombie flick much more. Death Proof had wayyyy too much talking, and I seriously considered walking out halfway through. Out of 3 of us, 2 of us liked Planet Terror much more. If you look at rottentomatoes.com, you'll see a similar divergence on which was better. I wonder what can be deduced about a person who likes one or the other.

I bought a bootleg of the movie, I am glad I spent 5 bucks. My review ?
Crap, Garbage and junk It should have been called Craphouse. It was ridiculous. I am disappointed in my two favorite film makers. Well Rodriguez... You have the daunting task of making a Conan film. It better be as good as Gladiator or 300 or the Ring trilogy. The first step is finding the right guy. I suggest Gerard Butler or.. the UNDERTAKER from the WWE.
Presence is whats going to make the MAN.
