I enjoyed watching this movie. It was a classical romantic comedy with a holiday theme. The only remark that I will make is that Jack Black was not the appropiate actor to play such role. I believe he gave THE HOLIDAY a not so romantic touch to it, plus the public is more used to see him in other types of comedies. This actor, I believe, ruined the movie. Even though I did enjoy other movies he worked in, this one did not make the mark. Please try to pick better and more appropiate actors for each type of movie; not just because an actor is well-known means that he or she will be suitable for any movie.
So I never expected to cry. But I did. Softy here, I guess. If you go see this movie with low to no expectations, you will be delightly surprised. Where the movie falls down in out-loud laughter it more than makes up for it with touching, chin-grinning tender moments of romance, love, and loss.
The shinning performance of this film is Jude Law. He is nothing less than dashing. His combination of wit, charm, and tenderness made him the true hero of this film for me. And on that note, Jack Black is absolutely charming - and absolutely deserved to be in this film. You want him to get the girl - and if have that feeling, he's done his job in the film.
There are no Oscars attached to this pic, however if you long for a good old-fashioned love story where you're inspired by love, touched by romance, and moved by heartbreak - you'd be hard pressed to find a better film this season.
Great movie for a 2nd date - especially if you're hoping for a 3rd.
Although I enjoyed the movie, I was disappointed in the Winslet-Black pairing. They had absolutely no chemistry going for them. Winslet fit with the rest of the cast; Jack Black did not.
I really enjoyed the film. I thought the cast was superb adn the chemistry between the characters was really good. i think particulaly the role of winslet was excellnet. she showed true emotion and that speech on the sofa with jack black was touching......brought a tear to the eye. ithought it was a film to which many could relate and i would definitly recommend this to anyone with a liking for rom coms.x
