Finally an honest review. Jackson did great things with the LOTR trilogy, but this multi-million dollar remake is a perfect example of Hollywood's recent failure. Three hours. Three long hours. There seemed to be an hour of film with no dialouge, only grunts and cartoon effects. Of course the fans-o-Jackson will rally and support no matter what. 'Twas boring.
If it was made right the first time, why re-make it?
Wait till it comes out on CD and then don't rent the CD! If you loved Titanic, you'll love Kong. If you are older than 12...you'll hate it
I thought the acting was good. Some people just have to criticize something or leave themselves open to the dreaded, 'I didn't think it was as good as you said' making themselves appear more distinguished in their tastes. The actors really drew me into this movie, and the implimentation of Kong was incredible. My palms sweat through the last 2 hours, and many people around me in the theatre were crying at the end, probably some of which are now panning the acting. I give King Kong a 9.9/10!
Good review. I wish to add though that the comment about the movie being devoid of human emotion is misplaced. The star of this movie is Kong, not Jack Black, not Brody. Some of the most moving scenes were indeed the silent ones where nothing was spoken, just the discovery and connection that Anne went through with this beast whom she was originally meant for as a sacrifice. That transition is by any measure extremely difficult to act out and I believe Naomi did a great job, so did Andy and Peter Jackson. Moving, very moving, even to the end.

Hilarious, the first King Kong Movie is so outdated that it is painful to watch. particularly, that ugly hairy armature climbing the Empire State Building, now, someone spends more money than Guatemala makes in a year to recreate the same scene and everyone complains that is not good enough. What did you guys expect from a flick where a monkey falls for a blond? What a bunch of whiners.
**** This film is incredible! I think you all are quite boring if you didn't enjoy this film. What more can you do with a movie about a love story with a giant gorilla and a women? The people who criticize this film are the same people who can't put themselves in the frame of mind that it is a movie about a friggin GIANT APE. Develope an imagination.
Cought King Kong earlier today (no gas bombs needed) and now i'm knackered so i'm not really going to talk about it in detail really.
King Kong is an indulgent film. You definatley see where all the $200 odd million went as this film is packed with special effects scenes. There is so much in this film, its rich in texture and packed with love.
Though its 3 hour + tag to it does make you feel a bit exhausted when you leave the cinema. Some scenes were stretched to a length that could easily of been cut down. I think i would of enjoyed the film more if it were around 2 and half hours.
Aside the movies length the movie is terrific. Its a modern day masterpiece. Peter Jackson rekindles something in you yet again like what he did with The Lord of the Rings movies.
The beast himself, King Kong is bought to life as if he were actually real. I kept forgetting throughout the film that he really was just a computer generated image. HIs actions, and emotions resemble that of a real ape. Andy Serkis and WETA have done it again.
The characters also were more interesting in this adaptation of Kong to that of the 1933 film. All of the characters are giving much more dimension. You really do feel for the characters, even the supporting cast members that just keep dying during the hole skull island ordeal. Naomi Watts portrayal of Ann Darrow is oscar worthy, as is suprising Jack Blacks big supporting role as Carl Denom. Hell give Serkis an Oscar too because Kong was definatley the best.
The action sequences in King Kong are some of the best seen on screen, Everything on Skull island is gold. The human dwellers of skull island in my opinion were though the most terrifying. They are scary as hell.
The good thing with Kong unlike the Spielberg War of the Worlds adaptation you get all you want and more. Theres not much more you can ask for.
The original beauty and the beast story, King Kong is a labour of love from Peter Jackson and co and certainly is a must see.
My Rating 9/10

Poor, poor, poor..... the M&C movie cynic does it again. Don't worry Ron I am sure you will get a girl, or boy, sometime and perhaps you might lighten up then and become less of a movie snob.... please someone tell him it's a fantasy story about a giant ape, about loss, about love.... wait a minute you guys already have !
Ron, I think you've mistaken this for a Star Wars movie.
Wow what a King Kong of a movie, it is the 8th wonder of the world. Thumbs up and all my fingers.
I felt like I just played three exciting hockey games back to back and was extremely exhausted from the experience of dancing with the real king of the beast. What a in creditable adventure that takes you back in time on wonderful modern roller coaster ride through back sets at universal studios, viewing your favorite top ten movies of all time and bring them together with the latest technology. Peter Jackson directing skills really feel like and breathe taking as the director had me squirming in my seat, covering my eyes, jumping again, clapping and feeling the romance, come passion and love.
I went home think that night how Naomi Watts (Ann Darrow) made you believe she was the most unlucky and luckiest woman in that ever lived. She not only captured the King Kong's heart, but she grab every pulse of heart in the audience took them for a ride of their life. The way she made you feel Kong was her king on the ice…… I would love to have him on my hockey team… and a dance with her again. Naomi…..Oscar may being the future.
I would have never thought a remake of any movie could be so wonderful experience, but Peter choice of cast and characters were wonderful balance with intrigue and energy. I truly enjoyed cast member, Jack Blacks (Carl Denham) as the director that will do what it takes to create a movie art piece and nothing else is important except the audience.. Jack Black focus roll reminds me of Peter and how important the views experience it what it all about and he willing to do what it takes. Naomi love interest Adrien Brody who love her for to the death or love what every God wills because what he does for Ann only a love sick man would do. Adrien Brody (Jack Driscoll character) takes you to place only your mind would like to think it would go for your love of woman. He is Ann true king.
King Kong is my super hero. What a ride….wait until you take a trip to Scull Island on the local tour boat, once their you get to meet the local natives, looked like some our local city beggars that have not truely eaten with out a bath. Wait tell you get tour of the Scull Island natives Zoo and takes to lunch, by the way your lunch. Or the nice tour he Peter gives you the beautiful death valley if this does not make you squirm nothing will and you would be good candidate for fear factor….. I would recommend if you have a week heart or young children, that are seanses in this movie that need supervision and some counseling after view for some people. So get a good night rest before you take a ride of your life. (Remember its just a movies as you may scream and hold on to the person next to you… as I did… of course they were so worked up they grab me you protection.
Yes this movie will grab you your heart for days and years to come….
The New Kong must go see, at least once or twice in the next month.
