Speculation and rumors with regards to the Star Wars Episode VII cast can now come to an end as Lucasfilm and Disney announce the official cast line-up for the film.
The announcement comes just two weeks before the start of filming in London.
As expected, original trilogy favorites will return for Star Wars Episode VII. Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill will be back as Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker. Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker will be back as C3PO and R2D2, whilst Peter Mayhew returns as Chewbacca.
Alongside the familiar Star Wars actors are a whole bunch of new generation Star Wars actors. Adam Driver, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will all star in Star Wars Episode VII.
What roles the new Star Wars Episode VII cast members will take has not yet been revealed.
British actor John Boyega is best known for filling the leading role in hit 2011 sci-fi comedy “Attack the Block.” He is also set to star in a new movie adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Caesar.”
Andy Serkis is already well known in the movie world, having played iconic roles such as King Kong and Gollum in “The Lord of the Rings.”
Daisy Ridley, the only female amongst the new cast is a relative unknown. To date the British actress has held bit-part roles in TV shows such as “Mr Selfridge” and “Silent Witness.”
Domhnall Gleeson is the son of Irish actor Brendan Gleeson. He is best known for playing Bill Weasley in the final two “Harry Potter” movies.
Oscar Isaac another newcomer to Star Wars is well known in film. He recently headlined Coen brother’s 2013 movie “Inside Llewyn Davis.” He recieved critical acclaim for his role and was nominated for the best actor award the 2014 Golden Globes.
American actor Adam Driver currently stars as Adam Sackler in HBO’s hit comedy series, “Girls.” His new film “Tracks” is set for release next month.
Finally rounding off the Star Wars Episode VII cast is movie veteran Max von Sydow. The 85 year old Swedish actor has appeared in over 150 movies and TV shows during his illustrious career. One of his most famous roles was as Father Merrin in the horror classic, “The Exorcist.”
New Star Wars director J. J. Abrams had this to say about the casting announcement;
“We are so excited to finally share the cast of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII.’ It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”
Star Wars Episode VII is set for release across the globe from December 18th, 2015.
