Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have picked up the screen rights to David Ignatius’ geopolitical thriller novel "The Increment" – which is scheduled to be published by WW Norton next year.

Variety reports the title refers to an elite group of British undercover intelligence operatives enlisted by a CIA agent to aid in the defection of a weapons scientist from Iran.

Ignatius had his CAA agents shop the book last weekend only to Scott Free and Bruckheimer (who Ignatius worked with on the script "Tandem Couple").

His manuscript received praise in the lit community for its suspense and characters, but many were surprised by Disney’s interest in the deal due to the dark plot – which features an invasion of Iran and could be a rather controversial aspect of the film by the time it is developed.
