From Monsters and Critics.com Movies News Controversial filmmaker Michael Moore has announced plans for a sequel to "Fahrenheit 9/11" for Overture Films and Paramount Vantage. Variety reports the two studios will shop the project to international buyers at the Cannes Film Festival and market. The two companies are set to co-finance and co-produce the untitled documentary – which is scheduled to be released sometime in 2009. Overture is in line to distribute the film domestically with Vantage handling international. Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11” took a hard look at George W. Bush's war on terrorism and was a hit at the worldwide box office. The documentary won the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 2004. Moore’s “Bowling for Columbine” and “Sicko” also played at Cannes. If it isn’t released in the spring, Moore's sequel could play at Cannes next year. He is already at work on the film. The documentary will reportedly pick up where "Fahrenheit 9/11" left off and will follow Bush's plummeting popularity, the continuation of the Iraq war, and the failing economy. Moore has a proven track record at the box office with three of the five top-grossing documentaries of all time. "Fahrenheit 9/11" is the highest-grossing documentary ever domestically with an estimated $119.1 million. The film grossed another estimated $100 million at the international box office. © Copyright 2007 by monstersandcritics.com. This notice cannot be removed without permission. |
