MMC Independent is set to co-produce Stephen Frears' upcoming romantic drama Cheri with Michelle Pfeiffer signed to star.

Variety reported Miramax and Pathe are in line to distribute the film - which is produced by Bill Kenwright and Tracey Seaward. Writer Christopher Hampton, Andras Hamori, Richard Temple, Francois Ivernel and Cameron McCracken are handling executive producing duties.

The co-production deal was signed on May 13th by Hamori and Ralf Schmitz, CEO of Cologne-based studio MMC in the presence of Andreas Krautscheid, North Rhine-Westphalia's state minister for federal and European affairs, at the state chancellery in Dusseldorf.

Cheri (an adaptation of the 1920s novel by French author Colette) focuses on the aftermath of a romance between a middle-aged woman and a wealthy younger man.

The film is a reunion of the people behind Dangerous Liaisons – Pfeiffer, Hampton and Frears.
