From Monsters and Critics.com Movies News Twentieth Century Fox has announced plans to release a sequel to Alvin and the Chipmunks on March 19, 2010. Variety reports Alvin and the Chipmunks II had been expected based on the success of the first film – which took in $217.3 domestically and $141.1 million overseas for a worldwide gross of $358.4 million. The film will be a co-production between Fox 2000 and New Regency. A screenwriter has not been hired for the project and executives have yet to settle on the film’s concept. Alvin and the Chipmunks ended with the three chipmunks joining back with their manager Dave Seville (Jason Lee). Lee has not signed to reprise his role for the sequel. Fox has also announced the release date for the screen adaptation of the Street Fighter video game.
