Pan’s Labyrinth’s creator Guillermo del Toro has signed to direct the screen adaptation of David Moody's Hater for Universal Pictures.

JoBlo has reported the director will take the on the picture sometime after he finishes up duties on Hellboy II: The Golden Army. It is not known if Hater’s filming will come before or after the director’s planned adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness.

The film’s plot is set in a society facing an increase in unprovoked violent assaults on people. The assaults seem to have no ties between the attackers (dubbed Haters) and their victims.
