Acclaimed director Francis Ford Coppola will soon return from a self-imposed eight-year directing exile, with a completely self-financed independent movie called ‘Youth Without Youth’.

Variety reports that the film, which will shoot in Bucharest, is based on a novella by Romanian author Mircea Eliade. It’s the story of a professor whose life changes after an unspecified, cataclysmic incident in the midst of World War II. He becomes a fugitive, and ends up running through Romania, Switzerland, Malta, and India to escape.

With shooting ready to start on October 3, using a script written by Coppola, they’ve also already got a cast in place. Tim Roth will star, presumably as the professor, along with lesser known actors Maria Lara, Bruno Ganz, and Marcel Lures.

Coppola, is best known as the man behind the beloved ‘Godfather’ trilogy, but while he’s been on a break it’s his daughter Sofia who’s been getting all the acclaim. She garnered Oscar attention for her fantastic film about loneliness in Japan ‘Lost in Translation’.
