Gus Van Sant talks Time Traveler's Wife adaptation

The film is based on Audrey Niffenegger's novel.

Sci Fi WireThe Time Traveler's WifeThe book follows Henry DeTamble, a dashing, adventuresome librarian who travels involuntarily through time, and Clare Abshire, an artist whose life takes a natural sequential course. Henry and Clare's passionate love affair endures across a sea of time and captures the two lovers in an impossibly romantic trap, and it is Audrey Niffenegger's cinematic storytelling that makes the novel's unconventional chronology so vibrantly triumphant. "I find the diagram of their relationship is really nice and well done," he said. "And if I can pull it off it'd be really nice, because it's hard to do. It's hard to cast, because, in some ways, I think, a love story is ... it's almost like, when you see the two people on screen, it's already happened. They're there. And that's the hard part, to get there already," he told the site. New Line Cinema are looking to release the movie in 2006.
