Cast in talks for another Beowulf movie
By James Wray Jun 15, 2005, 10:26 GMT
Columbia Pictures is in negotiations with Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, Brendan Gleeson and Robin Wright Penn to star in Robert Zemeckis' version of Beowulf, reports Variety.
Based on the oldest written English language myth, Beowulf, using performance capture.
Beowulf was one of the tales that inspired J. R. R. Tolkien, an adventure that tells the bloodsoaked tale of a Norse warrior’s battle against the great and murderous troll, Grendel.
Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman wrote the script.
Another movie based on the poem, Beowulf and Grendil, has already finished shooting.

I won't be buying the hollywood version either....I'm tired of HOllywood churning out cheap tacky movies the way GM churns out cheap tacky cars. They must think we're really stupid. I'll buy the Gerard Butler version of Beowulf. I notice Gerry doesn't have much to do with Hollywood.......smart man! and a fine actor.
Are you kidding? Beowulf and Grendel is trash. The director had no clue the original story was about. Just watch the trailer. The director claims he used no special effects to make the movie more believable. BS! it's because he is a broke film maker with no talent.
Holly wood however offers us a script by Neil Gaiman, probably the best contemporary author of our time, who understands completely what mythology is how myths work. Along with awesome actors and revolutionary motion capture techniques.

Give me a break. Let the Beowulf and Grendel film that has been completed for some time, now and has no release date as of yet, have a fighting chance here in the states, before deciding to shove another boring and contrived American made film down our throats, without giving the public the credit it deserves for having the intelligence to know what they consider to be REAL entertainment verses controled. Apparently, it's all about the money. Well, heads will surely roll if the Zemucus film is released in leu of the already completed version. I for one WILL NOT waste my money.
