Is the new movie, The Descent, based on the Jeff Long novel?

It is very vaguely based on the novel. The 'monsters' are from the novel, but nothing else seems to be. Too bad, it is one of the best books I've ever read.
No, it's not 'intentionally' based on the novel. Similarities abound, but it sounds like the story is extremely weak compared to Jeff Long's book, which is so very excellent.
