This is the current 3D film being offered in theaters. It is probably easier to
look at than SPY KIDS 3D, as Robert Rodriguez is smart and will try to make
the technique look better, a second time around. Sadly, he is forced to use the
tacky paper red eye/cyan eye anaglyph glasses. The reason being, that this fairly crude method will allow him to run the film in thousands of ordinary theaters. A few hundered of the theaters will be offering the next step up on the 3D scale...better plastic glasses that display better color and clarity.
It would be great if he allows the film to play in some of the few digital
houses with the better polarized glasses technology. That could happen as a kind
of 'real world test' but the likelyhood is not great. This film needs to make
some money if the cause of 3D movies is to advance. Hopefully the execs at the
studios will bankroll more 3D if there is another hit like 'Polar Express 3D'.
That film did only so-so considering its big budget, but the limited 3D IMAX
relese did FIFTEEN TIMES the average of the non-3D release. Recently George Lucas announced his intention to re-process all 6 STARWAR films into 3D for re-release from 2007 on. I guess he sees that as his retirment financial fund!!!
Big things are on the way for 3D, but a little support from the fans of 3D
on this one will help the 3D acceptance process...So take the kids to see this one!
