Hilary Swank writes for freedom

Paramount Pictures will finance and distribute Freedom Writers, a drama based on diaries written by Erin Gruwell and her students (the Freedom Writers).

Variety reports Richard LaGravenese will direct with Hilary Swank starring.

The book tracks the journey the troubled youngsters take as they study the likes of Anne Frank's diary and find role models in the wider world. This helps them understand the negative forces acting on their own lives and inspires them to change.
