DOWNFALL, a gripping recreation of the final days of Adolf Hitler, will become the all-time highest grossing German-language film in the UK tomorrow, Saturday 30th April, coincidentally the date which marks the 60th anniversary of Hitler's death. The film will have taken over £1.3million at the British box office thereby eclipsing GOOD BYE LENIN!, previously the top German box office earner at £1.24million.
UK cinema-goers have been turning out in force to watch how, 60 years ago to the day, the Führer and his last dedicated followers holed themselves up in his bunker and took their own lives and those of their children rather than surrender to the advancing Allied forces. Swiss actor Bruno Ganz gives an uncanny performance as the soon-to-be-toppled demagogue in the first realistic portrayal of Hitler in a German film.
A huge talking point and box office hit in its native Germany, DOWNFALL received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
Released by Momentum Pictures on April 1st in the UK, DOWNFALL continues to play in cinemas across the country.
