Cannon to Direct Soccer Movies

Danny Cannon is to direct Icon Productions forthcoming football movie, "Goal". The film stars Diego Luna and is intended to be part of a $100 million trilogy about a young Latino player who goes from nothing to an international star.The second movie will see him play with Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League and the third at the World Cup in Germany.It has been written by Mike Jeffries and Adrian Butchart and filming is due to start in the winter of this year. We assume they are going to look for a 2006 climax to the trilogy to co-incide with the actual World Cup in Germany. But it sounds quite a risky project given the lack of interest in mens football in the USA and the problems in making a successful trilogy about this subject.Though James Nesbit and Stuart Townsend should ensure a good UK reaction to this.Source: Variety
