I hope no body believes that the da vinci code is actually true. God sent Jesus Christ to die in our place so that we could live forever in paradice. I am sad people do beilieve in the book becuase it will get you nowhere and better yet don't read the book!

But the book does not discredit Jesus Christ and/or his place in the Bible. It just suggests that there might be more to his story!

Katie, reminding people it is fiction is fine, but to say don't read it is being a bit silly. After all, it is placed in the Fiction section of the book store.

Katie, you have the right to say what you will, but your statement doesn't have much of an impact when there are multiple spelling mistakes. Obviously, many people enjoy this tale and most likely, will not be discouraged from advising their friends/family/coworkers/etc to read it just because it might make you 'sad.'

As rational humans we should be able to rise above the petty notion of religion and that there is a god. With so many religions in the world each claiming to be the 'true' teaching of 'god' you have to wonder if its not just a huge crock of sh!t. If humans are 98% the same as a chimpanze then I'll take my chances that we evolved from apes, not by the wave of some magic man.

I just finished reading the book a couple days ago and i really enjoyed it. i couldn't put it down. i think it was very interesting and it made me think about things in a different way. i still believe in Jesus and that he died for our sins but i also know that the bible was written by man.

Katie, while I can appreciate your devotion to your faith, I belive it is silly to encourage people not to have questions. Although a little off base, the Da Vinci Code does pose some theories that promote the idea that people should look a little deeper and not blindly accept what they are told. And, if nothing else, it is an extremely entertaining story.

I do not believe the book is true nor do I believe in Christianity. How can you ignore all the contrary facts to everything Christians hold holy. I just want people to think with open minds and not be brainwashed and scared into believing everything they hear about religion.

Katie: Whether or not there is any truth to the historical references in the DaVinci Code is beside the point (see comment below about 'fiction'). It's OK to disagree or be angry or offended. But your closed-minded, black-and-white (some might say brainwashed) attitude does nothing to justify or garner respect for your statement. Such a complete lack of tolerance and critical thinking is why this world is such a mess. If you spend your life standing your dark corner hurling accusations, you have wasted it. Come out and meet others in the middle of the room. If you want others to hear you, you must also listen.

I thought Brown did a great job of weaving myth, rumor and conspiracy into a believable tale of fiction. Emphasis on fiction. I like Katie, she's trying to defend her faith and I can relate. People struggle with faith all the time. It can be frustrating as a Christian when people will believe an admitted work of fiction written by a man but disregard 66 books 'breathed by God' as the scriptures say (the Bible).

i would hope even hardcore christians would be open to the fact that man created the bible and organized religion therefore odds are the are half truths and missing information.

I'm really excited to see Audrey in this film. I think she's an amazing actress that the american audience needs more exposure to. And off topic -
Since when did this website become a basis for religious debate? It's a great book and should be a good movie. If you don't support the book, you don't support the movie...so why would you comment anyway?

The point is not whether the Davinci Code is 'true'. The ideas it raises. such as the fact that the early church may have suppressed the role of Mary Magdalene and her relationship with Jesus should be of major interest to Christians. Why should we be surprised that conservative church fathers wanted to protect their privileges and stopped at nothing to suppress views that disagreed with 'orthodoxy'. Blindly accepting dogma based on 'faith' would seem to contradict the human spirit, alas, though, humans are easily led astray....

What I find interesting is the way that so many people have made incredibly mean-spirited responses to Katie's comment. You have your beliefs, Katie has hers. Having read The Da Vinci Code, I have to admit that nobody will truly be worse off if they don't read it--It's just the same old popular trash. (Though I do recommend it. It's an entertaining book and I look forward to the movie.)

I sure hope they fixed all the errors in data in the book. Like Devinci naming the Mono Lisa. Unless that too is warped reality for a fictional book.

All I can say is Im terribly disapointed that Tom Hanks is playing Robert Langdon. While he is a good actor, Robert Langdon is supposed to be pleasing to the female eye. Tom Hanks is the exact opposite. What about Clive Owen?? YOWSA!

Regardless of the contents of the DaVinci Code, people of all stripes have to remember that it is a work of fiction. The Bible, even with supposed errors is NOT fiction. Notwithstanding those facts, people should be allowed to read whatever they want to. Even good Christians should be able to appreciate such a work of fiction without taking an approach like the one the Iranian rulers did against Salman Rushdie's fictional 'Satanic Verses'.

Actually, the DVC was based on a much harder to read book called Holy Blood, Holy Grail, written by Richard Lincoln, and Richard Leigh (Lea Teabing is an anagram of Lincoln and Leigh, one of many references to the HBHG in the DVC). This book is based on a lot of research, but because the authors are not 'credentialed' academics the book is dismissed, though usually those doing the dismissing have close ties to the Vatican....that is the book that Katie should worry about people think it is true....

before his birth, the king got a vision that the child would be the cause of death. So the king killed all the newborn children in the area. Parents had to flee the city to save the kids life. Grew up as a cowherd. Was worshipped after his death as God. The main cause of the writing for his religion's book of faith. Sounds familiar? Not jesus but the hindu god krishna.

Wow amazing how so many different types of wars are all in the name of religion. I seem to remember the cruel parts of religious history as death..kill all that don't believe as they do...call them witches, of the devil, (which is the funniest story I have ever heard), control the masses in the name of God..Yikes I am so glad to be of a free mind..to me god/goddess really mean being free to be...Dan Brown, thank you for a fabulous story..

Intriguing set of comments - mysteriously brought to an end
maybe there is another conspiracy.

The problem with the book/film is that it appears to make truth claims -
and those who aren't bothered to investigate are happy to add them to
their excuses for avoiding who Jesus really was - and who Mary Magdalene
really was for that matter .

Anyway - enjoy the film - if you're the sort of person who reads this stuff
I'm sure you will - but don't let Dan Brown's persuasive lines kid you !!
look up 'Da Vinci Code rebuttal' on google if you need some detail !
